The Movement Disorder Society (MDS) is an international society of clinicians and scientists interested in Parkinson’s disease and related neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders. Goals of the Society are to disseminate knowledge, promote research into causes and treatments, and promote training in Movement Disorders.
The EFNS has entered a formal collaboration with MDS-ES, which is responsible for organizing and overseeing all Movement Disorders activities during the annual EFNS Congresses. This includes the organization of the Main Topic, a basic and an advanced teaching tourse and Focused Workshops. In addition to these, MDS-ES organizes the European Basal Ganglia Club invited lecture presented at each EFNS Congress. This is a very popular session, in which an international speaker provides a keynote lecture followed by presentation and discussion of videos of unusual Movement Disorders.
Since January 2006, the chair of MDS-ES has also chaired the EFNS Scientist Panel on Movement Disorders.
MDS-ES has co-organized the Movement Disorders programmes for all the EFNS Congresses since Vienna in 2002. The next EFNS Congress, to be held September 12-15, 2009, will take place in Florence, Italy.
At each EFNS Congress, MDS-ES provides review for all of the abstracts on Movement Disorders topics, and jointly with EFNS, funds the award of up to 20 bursaries for young neurologists presenting high quality papers on Movement Disorders.
