European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis

ECTRIMS is pleased to announce its Research Fellowship Exchange Programme competition for the coming year.

The fellowship is offered to young European postdoctoral neuroscientists (MD, PhD, ScD or equivalent) to facilitate their conduct of and training in basic, clinical or applied research related to MS in European laboratories or clinics. The goal is to maximize exchange of information and help grow the pool of well-trained scientists focused on MS.

ECTRIMS will support up to two fellowships annually, each with duration of 1 or 2 years, with an annual stipend of up to €40,000 - €50,000, depending on the candidate’s degree. Fellows are expected to identify a European research training environment and mentor prior to application and to devote full-time to research and research training during their fellowship period (up to 10% time and effort can be spent on teaching and/or clinical care).

The Migraine Research Foundation opens 2011 research RFPs

The Migraine Research Foundation is dedicated to ending the debilitating pain of migraine. We fund innovative research to further the understanding of the causes and mechanisms of migraine, to develop improved treatments for sufferers, and to find the cure.

Among the programs we fund are:
- annual research grants
- a special award to encourage young investigators to enter the field of migraine research
- For Our Children initiatives to combat childhood migraine.

2011 Request for Proposals - Now Open

The Migraine Research Foundation is committed to furthering the understanding of the causes and mechanisms of migraine, helping to develop improvements in treatment, and finding the cure. As a result, MRF is actively seeking to provide seed money grants for projects that are important, achievable, and innovative that will ultimately lead to better treatment and quality of life for migraine sufferers.

While MRF welcomes all proposals relevant to basic or clinical migraine research, this year we are particularly interested in projects related to three areas: (1) childhood migraine, (2) migraine in women, and (3) chronic migraine.

Movement Disorder Research Grant by the Jacques and Gloria Gossweiler Foundation

The Jacques and Gloria Gossweiler Foundation awards grants to support high quality and novel research in the field of non-pharmaceutical treatment of Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders. Non-pharmacological treatment include physical activity, physiotherapy, ergo therapy, and speech therapy as well as psychological and spiritual approaches.

The grants will take the form of support for research projects and of individual fellowships to outstanding scientists in training. Support of research projects shall include both small, exploratory studies based on new hypothesis and ideas, as well as full-blown larger scale studies, research programs and clinical trials performed in an internationally recognized institution in Europe.

Calling all researchers in Neuroimmunology… - the Interlaken Leadership Awards programme

Following the success of the inaugural year of the Interlaken Leadership Awards, a global initiative to support investigator-led  research in the field of polyvalent immunoglobulin therapy, CSL Behring is pleased to invite applications for the second year of the program.

The goals of the Interlaken Leadership Awards program are:

  • To identify new clinical applications for immunoglobulin therapy.
  • To investigate the mechanisms of action of polyvalent immunoglobulins.
  • To enhance the quality of life of patients using polyvalent immunoglobulins.

The initial focus of the program will be on neuroimmunological diseases.

Fondazione Gino Galletti - Neuroscience Prize 2011

The “Gino Galletti Foundation – European Neuroscience Prize 2011”

of € 10,000.00, have been awarded to Dr. Oliver Wirths.

Dr. Wirths will receive the award and present his research at the Department of Neurological Sciences, University of Bologna the 13th of December, during a scientific meeting dedicated to the late Professor Pasquale Montagna, MD, Neurologist.
The meeting main lecture will be held by Prof. Pierluigi Gambetti, Division of Neuropathology, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH, USA, with a talk on “Huma prion diseases”.

 

General Introduction

The Gino Galletti Foundation is devoted to promoting scientific research in the field of neurodegenerative pathologies leading to dementia in its broadest sense.

Among other activities, in recent years the Foundation has funded a Prize for young researchers interested in neurodegenerative pathologies. 

The next Prize will be awarded in 2013.

THE BRAIN PRIZE

Dear Colleague,

We seek your help in identifying candidates for a new, € 1 million prize. The Brain Prize has been established by a private Danish foundation, Grete Lundbeck European Brain Research Foundation.

The Prize will recognize a highly original and influential advance in brain research. If several researchers have contributed significantly to this achievement, more than one individual may be nominated. Nominees can be of any nationality but the research for which they are nominated must have been conducted in Europe or in collaboration with researchers in Europe.

It was awarded for the first time this year, to Péter Somogyi, Tamás Freund and György Buzsáki.

European Exchange Programme OFTEN

Not all centers have the facilities to train young neurologists adequately in their area of interest, so the trainee may have to spend time in another country. One of the EAYNT's priorities is to help interested trainees to find a specialised training center in their subspeciality.

Queen Square - Diploma in Clinical Neurology

The Diploma in clinical neurology is a unique specialist course and receives wide recognition in the UK and overseas. This is for doctors intending to practice Clinical Neurology. The candidates for this qualification must have at least one year's experience in neurology. The course commences in October each year and extends to the end of March, having a duration of six months.

  • The course concludes with written, clinical and oral examinations, leading to the award of the Diploma in clinical neurology.
  • This postgraduate training programme includes systematic lectures, outpatient teaching sessions and specialist clinics, inpatient teaching sessions and ward clerking, as well as sessions on clinical neuroanatomy, neurophysiology and neuropathology directly related to clinical problems. Also there are systematic sessions in basic science, special investigation and methods of examining the nervous system and critical appraisal module.
  • There are organized visits to specialized national centres: management of patients with epilepsy (The National Society for Epilepsy, Chalfont St. Peter), spinal injuries (National Spinal Injuries Center, Stoke Mandeville Hospital) and post stroke rehabilitation (Regional Neurological Rehabilitation Unit Homerton Hospital).
