Scientist Panels

The aims of the scientist panels are:

  • to co-ordinate clinical research at a European level
  • to disseminate good neurological practice throughout European countries
  • to assist the Congress Programme Committee in organising congresses
  • to assist the EFNS in training neurologists and in supporting continuing medical education.

In order to achieve these aims scientist panels have the following terms of reference:

  • to form a panel with one member from each European country which is willing to provide a nominee with expertise in the relevant specialty. Panel members are appointed for a two-year period and may be re-appointed twice.

The chairperson of the panel may appoint extra members for special purposes. Chairpersons of Scientist Panels are encouraged to recruit a junior neurologist from their own department as officially appointed secretary.

  • to prepare an action plan for their panel
  • to identify specific subjects within their sub-specialty which require co-ordinated European research or guideline development
  • to propose to the chairperson of the Scientific Committee task forces to co-ordinate such research or develop guidelines
  • to propose to the chairperson of the Congress Programme Committee subjects for focused workshops and to assist in the organisation of such workshops
  • to assist the editors of the European Journal of Neurology by suggesting reviewers, stimulating authors of reviews etc.
  • to provide the annual report to the chairperson of the Scientific Committee in time for the annual meeting of the Scientific Committee at the EFNS Congress

Financial support to Scientist Panels will only be given in accordance with the rules for financial support established by the EFNS Finance Committee.
