EFNS Task Force Sub-Saharan Africa and Neurology

The project to organise Regional Teaching Courses (RTCs) also in Sub-Saharan Africa was initiated in 2007 by Prof. Jacques L. De Reuck, EFNS Past-President, together with Prof. Jean-Michel Vallat (Limoges, France) who has a long standing experience of working with neurologists in the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa.

The successful model of RTCs organised by the EFNS in Eastern Europe was adapted and replicated for teaching in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The project aims at sharing teaching of excellence and good practice in clinical neurology as well as creating opportunities for neurologists in training to access high level teaching within their countries.

The RTC will travel from East to West Africa allowing both English as well as French speaking countries of Sub-Saharan Africa to attend the RTC.

The WFN (World Federation of Neurology) and IBRO (International Brain Research Organisation) co-operate with EFNS on this project.

Three RTCs have taken place so far:

2008: Dakar, Senegal
2009: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
2010: Abidjan, Ivory Coast

Eveline Sipido of the EFNS Branch Office Florence, togehter with Prof. Jean-Michel Vallat, is responsible for this project.
